Neal the Craftsman -
inspired by Sea, Skye and Sheep ...
Artists
have always drawn their inspiration from their environments. It is easy to
see from where Neal captures his enthusiasm.
A wander around his fourteen acre croft (a
Highland farm) reveals a wealth of influences. From the grandeur of
the surrounding scenery to the subtle changes of light.
But
rather than produce intricate slipware destined only for display cabinets,
Neal's matter-of-fact attitude is that traditional earthenware should
first and foremost serve a practical use.
Pure pieces, simply decorated but with a contemporary
feel. Something that you should relish eating from and even enjoy washing
up.
Even though Neal has an unsentimental attitude
towards his own wares. when it comes to his students he delights in
compelling them to explore every pottery avenue. Students aged from six to
sixty have been infected with Neal's love of his craft.
